Icons

Icons. Lots of icons.

Most attempts to justify icon design tend to approach it by saying they're not just little pictures, but that a lot of effort needs to go into them to make sure they're appropriately diverse yet consistent, representative, and that they carry an easy metaphor for people to pick up, and that this means they take forever to create. When I approach icons, I tend to grab whatever metaphor is handy and run with it in huge doses, creating about as much effort but getting far more results at a modest cost. Every now and then it's necessary to backtrack and change an icon for visibility's sake—British Library's Picture - PSD 2, I'm looking at you—but in general there's a hell of a lot that can be crammed into a week with Google Image Search and Photoshop's Color Balance. Of course, this comes with the complication that I can't really claim to own much of my work beyond document icons and folder icons, as most of the rest are all derivative works, but it makes for a good view, hmm?
