Mods and Modding
Alterations of programs to meet specific UI requirements which probably void the warranty and involve altered executables.
I usually try to avoid big mod jobs if possible when I'm setting up machines. I've been in the habit for a while, however, of making things fit British Library when I needed to, and the result has been a combination of finding the right program—my software library is much different than it started out!—and carefully teasing it into the right shape. Modding often requires extra considerations for the UI's intended design, such as when an icon is used in two different places for two different metaphors. It also involves a colossal amount of forensic analysis. Fortunately, though, most of it is fairly straight-forward, and I generally find myself racing to catch up on the bitmap and icon front!
So, anyway, here are a few altered binaries that I feel comfortable with releasing.
