The Configurable Abstract Database Relational Engine

CADRE exists to solve the following challenge:

Forums, wikis, choose-your-own-adventure stories and blogs share a very similar fundamental internal structure: a system of articles, which can be written or edited by users with various permissions, and may be connected through links or in chains. How can this structure be generalised, and if it can be generalised, will the act of doing so offer any new insights?
